Animal facts on fishing cat:
When hungry, these cats go fishing. If the water is shallow, they wade in. In deeper water, they swim or dive in after their prey. Fishing cats also hunt from the water's edge, using their sharp claws like fish-hooks.
Like a civet in proportions, with a long, stocky body and relatively short legs, the fishing cat is a semiaquatic hunter of fish, frogs, snakes, water insects, crabs, crayfish, and shellfish. However, it's adaptations to water are largely behavioral, as its toes are only slightly webbed, and it's teeth are not suited for grasping slippery prey. It scoops prey from water with its paws, often diving, and sometimes it suddenly surfaces under a waterbird. The fishing cat's coat is grizzled olive-gray with brown spots running along its body.
Fishing cat lives in India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Vietnam, Thailand, Java and Sumatra.
